Idaho, Boise Unemployment Rates Drop Again

Idaho businesses hired more than 11,000 workers in February, pushing the state's unemployment rate down for the seventh straight month.

The State Department of Labor reported today that Idaho's jobless rate dropped by a tenth of a point - down to 8 percent - the lowest rate since September 2009. Additionally, the Labor Department reported that the number of workers without jobs was 62,500, the fewest unemployed Idahoans in 28 months (though the official statistics don't include thousands of Gem State workers who have given up their search for a position).

The Boise metro area registered a 7.9 percent jobless rate in February, down from 8.3 percent in January and 8.7 percent a year ago. The City of Boise's unemployment rate was even lower in February: 7.4 percent, down from 8 percent a year ago.

Adams County reported the highest unemployment rate in Idaho during Februrary: 13.2 percent. Franklin County was the lowest at 4.3 percent.
