Idaho Freedom Foundation Releases 'Freedom Index' on Lawmakers

The self-described "government watchdog" group Idaho Freedom Foundation has released a report compiling its results for just how "free" Idaho lawmakers voted to make the state.

"The Freedom Index," according to the group's press release, "is based on the impact the proposed legislation has on the free market, constitutional principles and individual liberties."

By compiling a list of the session's bills and assigning a points value for the established criteria, the IFF came up with a less-than-scientific record of just how closely Idaho lawmakers voted conservative values.

When sorted by most supportive of the free market to least, New Plymouth Republican Sen. Monty Pearce, ironically following his later dismissed ethics probe surrounding a bill that would limit freedom of local governments, tops the list for voting in favor of bills that make the state more free.

At the opposite end of the list are Ketchum Democrat Sen. Michelle Stennett and Boise Democrat Les Bock. Sagle Republican Sen. Joyce Broadsword was tied with Bock, one of few Republicans ranked lower than other Democrats.
