Son of Idaho Lawmaker Pleads Guilty To Drug Charges

Posted By on Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 9:19 AM

The son of Meridian Republican Rep. Joe Palmer faces a possible prison sentence for felony drug possession when he goes before Fourth District Judge Thomas Neville on July 16. He may also be eligible for enrollment in a drug court program.

Cord Palmer, 21, was arrested in January after Boise police said they found 132 grams of psilocybin mushrooms in his car. Sixteen packages of the drug appeared to be packaged for sale. A small amount of marijuana was also discovered. At the time of his arrest, he was serving a six-year probation term for aiding and abetting a burglary in 2009.

He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of possession of more than three ounces of marijuana. Prosecutors agreed to drop the drug delivery charge in an effort to make Palmer eligible for drug court.

Cord Palmer is the son of Joe Palmer, Meridian legislator and chairman of the House Transportation Committee.
