Treatment in New Meridian Pond Kills Fish, Prompts Warning

Posted By on Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 9:22 AM

The message is simple from Idaho Department of Fish and Game: don't eat the fish from Kleiner Pond ... at least anytime soon.

The pond is part of Meridian's just-opened Julius Kleiner Memorial Park, featuring more than three miles of pathways and 37 acres of greenspace.

Unfortunately, the city recently treated aquatic weeds in the pond, which "apparently" killed fish that were stocked in the pond, according to Fish and Game. A fishery official said that the dead fish may contain enough copper from the treatment to make them unfit for human consumption.
