Ending a nine-month run of declining unemployment, Idaho's jobless rate went up one-tenth of a point in May to 7.8 percent, representing 60,600 people on the unemployment line, 400 more than April.

Even though the unemployment rate went up, the number of Idaho workers with jobs jumped over 721,000 for the first time since mid-2008. Almost 3,000 more people entered the labor force in May. A year ago, total employment was under 702,000 and 67,500 workers were unemployed.

Clearwater County recorded the highest jobless rate in May at 15 percent. The lowest rate was 4.3 percent in Franklin County, one of four counties under 6 percent, the others being Bear Lake, Gooding and Oneida.

The Treasure Valley recorded an 8 percent unemployment rate in May, up from 7.6 percent in April, but down a full percentage point from 9 percent in May 2011.
