AP: Idaho Department of Juvenile Correction Accused of Fraud, Cronyism, Coverup

Saying that workers with the Idaho Department of Juvenile Correction are committing fraud and wasting public money, seven department employees have filed suit against the agency and are calling for the offices of the Idaho Attorney General and U.S. Attorney for Idaho to launch an investigation.

The Associated Press reports that the suit, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Boise, alleges that the department is putting juveniles at risk. The suit points to a specific incident, alleging that the agency failed to prevent a juvenile offender from "inappropriately touching other juveniles." The suit also contends that department leaders "intentionally hid incidents" in which juveniles were injured.

The AP's Rebecca Boone also reports that the suit alleges cronyism within the department, where "favored employees" are allowed to commit fraud by padding their time sheets. The suit also contends that those who spoke out about any problems "face retaliation from department leaders."
