A Meridian birthing center, at the center of an investigation that saw the license suspensions of its owner and her daughter, has decided to continue doing business, but under a new name.

The Associated Press reports that The Baby Place, which agreed to a $5 million settlement with a couple that sued the owners after their baby suffered brain damage at the facility, now does business as New Beginnings Baby Place.

Meanwhile, the AP reports that the findings of a criminal investigation have been forwarded to Ada County prosecutors.

Allegations against Coleen and Jerusha Goodwin include "an immediate and ongoing danger to the public health, safety and welfare," according to the licensing bureau. Both women have been ordered to stop practicing midwifery and ordered not to seek license renewal until the state board completes its investigation.

The Idaho Bureau of Occupation Licenses has launched investigations into 20 complaints against midwives since 2010. According to the state, 38 individuals have been licensed to work as midwives in Idaho.
