Report: Cattle Slaughterhouse Considered for Mountain Home

Posted By on Wed, Jul 25, 2012 at 8:42 AM

The Mountain Home News reports this morning that Elmore County planning and zoning commissioners are considering "appropriate zoning ordinances" for a proposed meat packing plant, which could bring approximately 300 much-needed jobs to the region.

The News reports that Mountain Home is one of two sites in Idaho under consideration from a pair of unnamed businesses that are mulling construction for "a major meat packing/slaughterhouse/rendering plant." Idaho currently has no cattle slaughterhouse. Idaho ranchers regularly truck their cattle to northern Utah or eastern Washington slaughterhouses.
