Former Twin Falls Undersheriff Alleges Sexism, Abuse in Department

A former undersheriff with the Twin Falls Sheriff's Office is suing her old bosses, alleging she was the victim of vulgar, sexual comments and ongoing gender discrimination. Gerlyn Walker is seeking more than $120,000 for the years that she said she was demoted due to her sex, and $40,000 per year until she reaches retirement age.

The Twin Falls Times News reports that Walker's suit alleges ongoing meetings that included only the male members of the sheriff's department and favoritism toward men, including being allowed to leave work for golf games and side jobs.

In one instance, Walker's suit alleges that a SWAT team member said she should lead dangerous entries into structures because, "she has no kids, she's old and no one will miss her." Walker also said that members of the department made constant "sexist, derogatory comments" about women going through menopause, "calling them crazy."

Walker said she resigned her position because of what she called the "hostile and offensive" work environment.
