Kristin Armstong Wins Second Olympic Gold

She retired four years ago at the top of her game. After her gold medal-winning effort at the Beijing Olympics, Boise's Kristin Armstrong decided to step away from competitive cycling. Armstrong became a major Idaho celebrity and began a family. But she knew she had one more Olympics in her. Indeed, she did.

Armstrong won her second gold medal this morning at the women's cycling time trial event at the London Olympics, beating Judith Arndt of Germany by a whopping 15 seconds. Armstrong pumped her way through an 18-mile scenic course, south of London, in 37 minutes, 34.82 seconds. She flew by Hampton Court Palace, the River Thames, and tens of thousands of spectators who lined the course.

She let her confidence show a bit as she smiled just before finishing the time trial. Being the last competitor on the course, she knew that she had grabbed the gold once more.
