A landmark immigration reform, announced late Friday by the White House, will allow young undocumented workers to start paying $465 for temporary work permits in the United States. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will begin accepting applications Wednesday, Aug. 15, and the permits are renewable up to two years.

An estimated 800,000 young undocumented immigrants, many of whom have spent much of their lives living here and attending U.S. schools, could qualify for the program.

The program applies to those who came to the United States before their 16th birthday. They are required to have lived in the United States at least five years and be under 30 years old. They must either be enrolled in school or have served in the military.

Anyone convicted of a felony or three misdemeanors will be disqualified.
