Feds: Idaho Man Guilty of Fraud in Elaborate Beef Scheme

Posted By on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 11:11 AM

An Idaho man, claiming he had a "connection" in the beef industry that helped supply restaurants and supermarkets, faces up to 20 years in prison and fines totaling $250,000 for wire fraud.

FBI agents and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Idaho accused 44-year-old James Harris of Coeur d'Alene of bilking a Florida resident of more than $100,000 in an elaborate scheme to finance whole beef. Government agents said Harris set up a false partner in his operation by using an email account——and claimed the phony partner was transmitting business emails.

Harris pleaded guilty to the charges and faces sentencing Monday, Nov. 5.
