University of Montana Hires Spin Doctor in Shadow of Sex Scandal

The University of Montana has confirmed that it is spending $10,000 to hire a consultant to help its "branding efforts" in the shadow of a scandal involving numerous sexual-assault incidents at the Missoula school.

The most recent headlines saw the quarterback of the U of M's football team charged with rape.

The U.S. Justice Department and the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights have both launched separate investigations into allegations of sexual assault at the University of Montana. The Justice Department cited more than 80 reported rapes in Missoula in three years, including at least 11 student-related cases in recent months.

This morning's Missoulian reports that the University of Montana has contracted with Tersa Valerio Parrot "to train school leaders on working cooperatively with local and national news organizations." Parrot's previous experience includes working with the University of Colorado, when that school was embroiled in athletic and academic controversy.
