31-year-old Todd Smisek is charged with grand theft.

A Boise man is behind bars, charged with stealing a trike used by a young man with special needs.

Todd Smisek, 31, was arrested this afternoon by Boise Police, following up on citizen tips to Crime Stoppers.

"The victim in this case has faced struggles that, thankfully, most of us will never have to overcome," said Boise Police Det. Kip Paporello. "To be able to recover, repair, then return the bike to the victim, and now to close this case with an arrest is extremely gratifying. "

Smisek is accused of stealing the specialized trike from in front of an East Boise apartment May 6. The recumbant bike was the sole source of transportation for its owner.

The main frame and wheels of the trike were found the next day. With the help of donated parts from a British company, the trike was rebuilt.
