Unemployment Claims Drop by 12,000

New data from the U.S. Department of Labor showed 365,000 Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week.

That number is down by 12,000 for the week ending Sept. 1, according to the Labor Department, marking the fewest claims in a month.

U.S. employers added approximately 201,000 jobs in August, the biggest gain in five months, according to Reuters.

However, an unemployment rate hovering just above 8 percent was a "grave concern" for Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke last Friday in a speech at the Fed's annual symposium for central bankers in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Idaho's jobless rate fell to 7.5 percent in July, which is a three-year low. On Aug. 18, 19,000 more Idahoans were at work than on the same date a year prior.

Additionally, Ada County registered a 6.4 percent unemployment rate in July, compared to 7.9 in 2011.
