Wesley Fire Grows to 4,000 Acres Near New Meadows

Posted By on Tue, Sep 11, 2012 at 11:11 AM

The Wesley Fire, located northwest of New Meadows, has closed areas surrounding several local creeks, including Boulder Creek and Upper Lick Creek.

The fire—fueled by subalpine fir, ponderosa pine and Douglas fir—has grown to 4,000 acres, aided by dry conditions and gusty winds. The remote location has dampened suppression efforts, though fire fighters continue to anchor and secure a fire line on the southern end of the blaze.

Payette National Forest officials have banned building or maintaining open fires outside of campgrounds and picnic areas.
