Suspect Arrested For Starting Karney Fire, Threatening 75-100 Homes

Law enforcement announced this morning that a suspect has been arrested for starting the Karney Fire, which burned through the night and continues to threaten scores of homes in the Wilderness Ranch subdivision area. The fire is raging approximately 5.5 miles north of Highway 21 off of Robie Creek Road.

Authorities said the identity of the suspect will be released later today.

The Boise County Sheriff's Office ordered evacuations as the fire raged through a vacant residence and threatened an additional 75-100 homes.

While fire managers have corralled the blaze by establishing a preliminary fire line, some flames jumped a portion of that line early this morning in an area called Mitchell Gulch.

The Idaho Department of Lands is the lead agency battling the fire, which currently is fully on private land. A number of crews worked through the night, and air tankers and helicopters are expected to work the blaze from above.
