Mountain Express: Grand Jury Continues to Probe Sun Valley City Hall

Sun Valley officials had hoped that the results of a much anticipated audit would be public by now, but this morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports that a criminal investigation is "ongoing" and a forensic audit is not yet ready to be unveiled.

The City of Sun Valley has been steeped in controversy, including the termination of its city administrator, tort-claim settlements paid to the city clerk and treasurer, and the city's fire chief being placed on administrative leave.

In August, Sun Valley Mayor Dewayne Briscoe acknowledged that the forensic audit, conducted by an outside firm, will reveal that his city was not in compliance with many federal and state labor laws.

The Blaine County prosecutor issued a subpoena for records used in the audit. According to the subpoena, the documents were to be used as part of a grand jury investigation "involving former and/or present employees of the city of Sun Valley."

The Mountain Express reports that during a special City Council meeting Thursday, Sept. 13, Briscoe said he has spent the last few weeks going through a name-clearing appeals process that will continue for another few weeks. Earlier this month, Briscoe said that personnel mentioned in the report will be given the sections of the report that pertain specifically to them.

“These employees will have the opportunity to respond to or appeal any findings in the report,” said Briscoe.
