Hurricane Sandy Affects Boise Flights

Airlines are preparing for a huge backlog, with thousands of flights already canceled in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy.

The ripple effect across the nation is already being felt.

U.S. Airways canceled its 7 a.m. departure from the Boise Airport to Phoenix this morning and United Airlines has already canceled one of its flights from Boise to San Francisco today.

The huge storm is threatening to tangle both air and train travel in the Northeast for at least two days, creating subsequent delays or cancellations throughout the U.S

As of this morning, 7,600 flights had been canceled and 613 flights have already been canceled for Tuesday, according to flight tracking website Flight Aware.

The Associated Press is reporting that the backlog is even affecting flights from as far away as Paris.

Authorities in New York warned that lower Manhattan could get swamped with seawater that could flood subway tunnels and cripple the network of electrical and communications lines that are vital to the nation's financial center, reports CBS.
