Election 2012 Preview: Battleground Polls Tipping Heavily Toward President Barack Obama

The latest poll compilations with particular focus on so-called battleground states indicate that President Barack Obama is a 4-in-6 favorite to secure enough electoral votes Tuesday, Nov. 6, to win a second term.

The New York Times' FiveThirtyEight forecast (538 being the total number of electoral votes) reveals that Obama's chances of winning increased to 83.7 percent on Nov. 2, improving from 80.8 percent on Nov. 1, and his highest figure since the Denver debate on Oct. 3.

There were 22 polls of swing states published Nov. 2. Of those, Obama led in 18 polls, and two showed a dead heat. GOP hopeful Mitt Romney led in just one of the surveys, a Mason-Dixon poll of Florida.
