Press: Some Kootenai County Election Results Not Posted Until Thursday

Minor glitches popped up across Idaho Tuesday night as county election workers struggled to get an accurate vote count. But the biggest problems of the night (and the following morning) were in Kootenai County, where "computer issues" were blamed for a long night's journey into day.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that a representative of the election equipment company Election Systems and Software "tried for hours to solve" an issue that included ballot counts not being uploaded correctly onto the elections department's website. A notice of "technical difficulties" wasn't posted to the public until 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Individual precinct results and write-in candidate totals weren't even posted until Thursday afternoon.

"We had been working for 26 straight hours," Pat Raffee, Kootenai County chief deputy clerk, told the Press. "We really needed some rest, before we could continue to think clearly."

The election results are expected to be made official next Friday, Nov. 15, by Kootenai County commissioners.
