Washington Liquor Store Owners Slap State With $7.5 Million Suit

Posted By on Sat, Nov 10, 2012 at 1:00 PM

Some Washington liquor store owners have launched a lawsuit against their state government, saying that they're owed more than $7 million in retail sales.

The Seattle Times reports that the owners of 11 liquor stores claim they took a financial bath in an inept transition from state control to private liquor sales in June. The owners also are complaining about a 17 percent fee they must pay when they sell liquor to bars and restaurants.

The owners claim that the state initially said it didn't plan on assessing the 17 percent fees for the transactions, and they stayed in business based on that assumption.
