The top brass of Whole Foods were all smiles this morning as they swung the doors open at their newest addition.

"I honestly can't tell you which numbered store this is. It's somewhere near our 350th store," Walter Robb, co-CEO told Citydesk. "We're poised to open 30 new stores in 2013 and between 32-38 the following year. But it's not about the numbers for us. We're honestly thinking about one store at a time. And that's why we're here. I love Boise," said Robb who said he has close friends in Boise and the Wood River Valley.

The 50,000-square-foot space on Broadway Avenue between Myrtle and Front streets has been years in the development and exactly one year in construction.

The Boise store, the first in Idaho, is part of Whole Foods' Rocky Mountain Region, which stretches from Mexico to Canada and from Idaho to Kansas.

"This is our 29th store in the region," said Will Paradise, president of Whole Foods Rocky Mountain Region. "But it's so unique. Take a look at our River Room (a second floor pub overlooking the store). It even has a blue floor to honor the Boise River."

Robb was wearing plenty of blue and orange, in honor of Whole Foods new neighbor, Boise State.

"I've been a Bronco fan for a long time," he said. "I love the way they play as a team and compete at the highest level."

Citydesk spoke to the Whole Foods management team with an 8-foot loaf of challah bread sitting nearby.

"We have a bread-breaking to honor a new store," said Ken Meyer, executive vice president of Whole Foods operations. "Breaking bread is a powerful experience of sharing."
