A man once selected by Time Magazine as one of the world's 100 most influential people will be bringing his much heralded Khan Academy to select Idaho schools.

This morning's Idaho Press-Tribune reports that Salman Khan, a former hedge fund analyst who began his Khan Academy in 2008, will plug Idaho into his teaching methods with financial help from Northwest Nazarene University and the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation.

The Khan Academy is an online-only service, providing content in areas of math, finance, history and art through interactive tutorials.

The Khan Academy is expected to pilot 25-30 elementary and secondary schools statewide.

Additionally, Oscar-winning film producer-director Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman) is scheduled to visit Idaho in January to chronicle the pilot project. The effort is expected to be part of Guggenheim's latest film, The Great Teacher Project.
