Press-Tribune: Idaho GOP Tells State Government to Ditch Insurance Exchange

Posted By on Sun, Jan 6, 2013 at 4:00 PM

The Idaho Republican Party pushed back against the Affordable Care Act, known by its opponents as Obamacare, during a Jan. 5 meeting at the Riverside Hotel in Garden City, according to the Idaho Press-Tribune.

GOP Central Committee members voted against the creation of a state-based health insurance exchange, despite Republican Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's Dec. 11 recommendation to do so.

The party's recommendation will be forwarded to Idaho lawmakers, most of whom are Republicans.

Otter will no doubt weigh in on the future of the federal legislation in his Monday, Jan. 7, State of the State address. At a Jan. 4 legislative preview with the press corps, Otter said the state was "keeping its options open" by moving forward on the implementation of a state health insurance exchange.

"If we arrive at a point where some things are trying to be forced on us that we can't accept," said Otter, "we can opt out."
