Winter Storm Warnings for Tonight, Tuesday

Posted By on Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 9:26 AM

Following extreme weather patterns of bitter cold, a paralyzing ice storm and unhealthy air inversion, the region is preparing for another winter storm, which the National Weather Service office in Boise says should sweep into the area this evening.

A jet stream from the north is pushing a precipitation-packed warm front across the area, expected to bring heavy amounts of snow across Oregon's Baker County and the west-central and Boise mountains of Idaho later tonight. The snow is expected to be followed by very strong winds on Tuesday.

Forecasters predict 8 to 15 inches of snow may fall in the west-central and Boise mountains, and up to a foot of new snow for the upper Weiser River area.

Beginning this evening and continuing through much of the day on Tuesday, travel throughout the region is expected to be challenging, at best.

On-and-off snow showers are forecast for much of the week ahead.
