Tribune: Lewiston Council Wants Answers on Idaho Legislator Holding Two Elected Posts

Saying "she needs to let the council know what her decision is so we can put that to bed," the mayor of Lewiston wants his City Council to formally take up the issue of Rep. Thyra Stevenson, who continues to hold down a position on the council while spending most of her days in Boise as a member of the Idaho House.

"We were told she was going to make a decision and she put it off," said Lewiston Councilor James Kleeburg on Tuesday.

This morning's Lewiston Tribune reports that Stevenson did not call in to attend, via phone, Monday's Lewiston City Council meeting.

"I haven't been feeling good, so I haven't made a decision," Stevenson told the Tribune in January about her dual responsibilities. Idaho law allows Stevenson to hold two political offices at the same time, but she can't run for two offices in the same year.

Stevenson told the Tribune that she wants to find a female replacement for her spot on the Lewiston Council, given that she is the only woman currently on the council.

"I think that's important, to provide that balance," she told the Tribune.

But Lewiston Mayor Kevin Poole has placed the issue of Stevenson's status on the agenda for the next council meeting, slated for Monday, Feb. 11.
