Idaho Lawmaker Will Hold On to Lewiston Council Seat

An Idaho legislator who is juggling her Statehouse duties with being a Lewiston City Council member says she will hold on to both posts until after this November's election.

In a statement released Thursday night to Lewiston's KLEW-TV, Republican Rep. Thyra Stevenson said she planned to finish out her term on the City Council.

"Voters deserve to elect their new councilors, not to have them appointed by what is considered a lame duck council before the general election in November," wrote Stevenson. "I am able to telecommute (at no cost to the city or the state) to council meetings when necessary, with full access to all agendas, minutes and documents."

Stevenson said she would reconvene her office hours for Lewiston citizens in April.

Meanwhile, Lewiston officials said late Thursday that they are busy working on the city's next budget this month.

In January, Stevenson told the Lewiston Tribune that she hadn't been feeling well and hadn't made a decision about her two elected posts.
