Blistering Editorial Rips McCall Council for 'Cowardice,' 'Arrogance'

In a scathing editorial—going as far as calling the McCall City Council cowards—the McCall Star-News is lashing out at its city's leaders for their lack of transparency in the recent suspension of Police Chief Jerry Summers.

With no explanation offered to its citizenry, Summers was suspended by McCall officials, who named Det. Sgt. Larry Stokes as the head of the McCall Police Department.

Summers joined the department in 1997 and had served as chief since 2005. Former Valley County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Williams told the Star-News that he had been hired to represent Summers.

"The suspension of McCall Police Chief Jerry Summers screams for an explanation, a rationale or even just a plain statement of facts," wrote the Star-News. "The McCall City Council apparently is cowering under the baseless and absurd assumption that keeping their heads down is preferable to communicating with their constituents."

The editorial scolded elected officials for not even replying with a "no coment."

"Either City Council members are filled with arrogance for the public interest or they are filled with fear of legal retribution. Both are wrong."
