Ada County Prosecutors said Wednesday, during the arraignment of 55-year-old Thomas Herman, that the Boise man repeatedly hit a woman with his hands and feet, causing a brain injury and broken bones before she died Tuesday in the man's room at the Cabana Inn in Downtown Boise. Prosecutors said the victim also suffered a lacerated liver.

The victim was identified as 46-year-old Mamokete Folkes, who was known to Herman.

During his arraignment, Herman was described by prosecutors as a transient with a criminal history of violence in Idaho, Ohio and Utah.

Herman's next court date is set for Wednesday, March 20, when he'll face a preliminary hearing in Ada County Court.

The Ada County coroner was still attempting to notify family members Wednesday morning, in the wake of the discovery of a woman, beaten to death, at the Cabana Inn in downtown Boise early Tuesday.

The woman died of blunt force trauma, according to the coroner.

Tuesday's homicide is the City of Boise's third murder case of 2013.

The suspect, 55-year-old Thomas Herman, was charged with first-degree murder.

Court records indicated that Herman, who was arrested in December 2012 and charged with aggravated assault at another Boise hotel, the Budget Inn, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disturbing the peace. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but 160 days were suspended.

Thomas Herman, 55, is charged with 1st Degree Murder.

UPDATE: March 5, 2013 3:30 p.m.

A Boise man is behind bars, charged with the murder of a female early Tuesday at the Cabana Inn in Downtown Boise.

The same man was arrested 69 days ago at another Boise hotel, where he was charged with threatening a woman at knife-point.

Boise Police responded to a call Tuesday morning of a disturbance at the hotel on the 1600 block of Main Street. That's where they discovered an adult female deceased in a room at the hotel. Officers said the victim was known to the suspect. The victim's name and the exact cause of death are pending a coroner's investigation.

Thomas Herman, 55, of Boise was booked into the Ada County Jail and charged with first-degree murder. He's expected to be arraigned Wednesday.

Herman was arrested on the evening of Dec. 26, 2012 when a woman said that Herman had been drinking alcohol and became agressive, threatening the woman with a knife. Herman was charged then with a felony count of aggravated assault.
