Mountain Express: Ketchum Closer to Smoke-Free Law

Posted By on Wed, Mar 20, 2013 at 9:26 AM

The City of Ketchum is a step closer to instituting its own smoking ban.

This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports that Ketchum city officials approved a second of three readings of an ordinance that would keep citizens from lighting up in all city-owned facilities, including parks, and in all enclosed public places and places of employment, including hotel and motel rooms. Additionally, the ordinance would prohibit outdoor smoking on all school property and near bus stops.

The ordinance, which comes up for a final vote Monday, April 15, would enforce the ban with a written warning for first-time offenders, followed by fines of $25 and $52. The Mountain Express reports that Ketchum officials will undertake a one-year campaign to educate the public on the new law before enforcing it.
