Star-News: Whitewater Park Founders Say They Have Next Big Idea for Valley County Community

The couple behind the creation of Kelly's Whitewater Park in the Valley County community of Cascade say they have another idea: a big summer games festival, modeled after Colorado's Vail Mountain Games.

The McCall Star-News reported that Mark and Kristina Pickard unveiled their idea March 17 in front of a couple hundred of their Cascade neighbors.

"We're brining in spending potential," said Mark Pickard. "It's going to continue—pardon the pun—it's going to Cascade."

The Star-News reports that the Vail Mountain Games, which began in 2002, includes kayaking, biking, foot races, climbing competitions and other events.

The Star-News said the Pickards live in Miami Beach, Fla., but have a home in Tamarack Resort. The couple spent about $3 million to build Kelly’s Whitewater Park and a visitor center, which opened in 2010, and pledged up to $1 million over 10 years for operations and maintenance.
