Risch to National Journal: 'I Don't Want to Be Pontificating On Cable Television'

This week's National Journal—a weekly political magazine aimed at Washington insiders—profiles Idaho Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, saying that he is "comfortably ahead" and "appears unlikely to face a significant challenge in deep-red Idaho" for a 2014 re-election bid.

Risch told the Journal he really likes his job, but "I wish I was here at a different time, because this is such a frightening time for the country."

The Journal's Courtney McBride insists that Risch "fully intends to seek re-election" and "isn't among the Republicans looking over their shoulders for primary challengers."

Risch said he prefers to spend more of his time advocating for constituents rather than "pontificating on cable television about some particular issue."

It should be noted, however, that Risch has appeared on cable news gabfests on several occasions.

"There's an old saying around here that ever senator should occasionally be guilty of possessing an unexpressed thought," Risch told the Journal. "And I subscribe to that theory."
