Anthony Schmidt, 25, is charged with grand theft, resisting or obstructing officers and outstanding warrants.

A Boise man was booked into the Ada County Jail late Saturday following a two-and-a-half hour standoff with Boise Police.

The incident began when a Boise Police officer spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen. When the driver pulled into a parking lot at Nez Perce and Roosevelt Streets, police said he ignored officers' command to stop and kept walking into a nearby convenience store.

Police immediately evacuated the store after, they said, they recognized the suspect as someone who had a violent criminal history including drug and weapons violations. The Boise Police Special Operations Unit was dispatched to the scene. Ultimately police deployed pepper spray into the store, leading the suspect to surrender a short time later in a bathroom of the store.

Anthony Schmidt, 25, was booked into the Ada County lockup on a felony count of grand theft, resisting and obstructing officers and outstanding warrants.
