Members of the 62nd Idaho Legislature are expected to start return trips home soon, after both chambers adjourned sine die just before noon Thursday.

Lawmakers had originally planned to adjourn before Easter on March 31, but the proposed K-12 public education budget—killed by a one-vote margin March 27—forced lawmakers to reconvene this week to hammer out new provisions for Idaho schools.

That included Senate Bill 1199, which allowed education funds to be funneled into so called "differential pay" and technology pilot programs for Idaho's public schools and charter schools. This afternoon House lawmakers also took up the amended Senate Bill 1040, which would allow school districts more leeway in reducing pay for teachers.

Following testimony from multiple lawmakers, the House approved the measure 47-21, with two members absent and excused.

Lawmakers voted unanimously to adjourn sine die at approximately 11:30 a.m. today.
