Press-Tribune: Nampa Sends Custodial Contract to Circular File

The Nampa School District Board of Trustees voted 3-2 Tuesday night to dump its custodians.

In its latest move, triggered by the school district's $4.3 million budget debacle, the trustees decided to outsource the district's custodial services effective July 1.

This morning's Idaho Press-Tribune reports that 83 employees will need to apply for jobs with the GCA Services Group, which will perform the custodial services. The district is expected to save more than $300,000 in the move, due in large part to cutting off health insurance to the ex-employees.

The Press-Tribune reports that the district is also considering more cuts, including the elimination of 40-50 certified employees (teachers), four administrative positions, and cutting supplemental contracts for athletics, music and debate.
