Idaho State Board Member: Alcohol on Campuses 'Slowly But Surely Becoming Out of Control'

In the shadow of a string of alcohol-related incidents at the University of Idaho—including students being injured from drunken falls and one U of I student dying of hypothermia—university officials announced in February that it would form two task forces to evaluate university policies regarding alcohol and university relationships with fraternities and sororities.

On Thursday, the Idaho State Board of Education jumped on the bandwagon.

"I think that there has to be some control points that need to be brought before us regarding how much control could be put on our fraternities, sororities and what we can do at games," said Board member Milford Terrell. "We have a situation, in my mind, that is slowly but surely becoming out of control."

While the board did not take any formal action on the matter, board members indicated that they would work with Idaho universities over the summer months to possibly craft a new statewide action plan at its August meeting.
