BLM Closes 11,994 Acres to Motorized Vehicles After 2012 Stout Fire

Posted By on Wed, Apr 24, 2013 at 10:16 AM

The Bureau of Land Management had a big announcement for recreationists: Nearly 12,000 acres of public land will be closed to all motorized vehicles due to the 2012 Stout Fire. The closure will be in effect for up to two years.

Temporary closure signs are expected to soon go up around the 11,994 acres of public land north of Mountain Home, indicating that anyone violating the rule could be subject to a fine or prison sentence. Non-motorized recreational access is allowed during the closure.

The BLM said that the closure will allow native vegetation time to recover in the wake of the 2012 fire.

Search and rescue vehicles, federal, state and local law enforcement are exempt from the closure.
