Feds: Idaho Prisoner Ran Elaborate Jailhouse Scheme

An inmate at the Idaho Correctional Center in Orofino is facing the possibility of a longer stretch in prison after federal prosecutors say he was running a class-action lawsuit scheme from his cell.

U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson announced May 1 that 53-year-old Mark Brown, who was already serving time for grand theft and burglary, was running his scheme from behind bars for nearly six years. According to a federal indictment, Brown pretended to be party to a series of class-action lawsuits and bankruptcy settlements, netting nearly $64,000. Brown was slapped with 12 counts of mail fraud for the alleged scheme.

If convicted, Brown faces a possible 20-year prison sentence for each count of mail fraud.
