Rob Akey Sues U of I Over Back Pay

Following a losing record of 20-50 as head football coach for the University of Idaho, Rob Akey was shown the door in October 2012 (he had kicked off last season with one win and seven losses).

But now, Akey has filed a lawsuit against the U of I seeking back wages.

KREM-TV in Spokane reports that Akey's contract was set to expire in December 2014. His base salary was $165,796.

Akey confirmed his lawsuit with KREM-TV. The lawsuit was filed April 16 against the University of Idaho, the State Board of Regents and the State Board of Education.

"All I'm look for is getting the money I earned," Akey said. "I'm not looking for anything more than that. I just want a fair resolution. If I had coached four more games, they would have had to pay me a third of my salary. You lose a third of your salary if affects your ability to feed your family, so it's a little disappointing."

A University of Idaho spokesperson said that the U of I doesn't comment on pending litigation.
