Daily News: U of I to Akey: No More Money

The University of Idaho has a message for its former football coach Robb Akey: he doesn't deserve any more money.

Earlier this month, U of I's former coach—with a 20-50 record—sued the university for back wages. Akey was shown the door in October 2012. His contract was set to expire in December 2014. Akey said if he had had finished out the 2012 football season, he would have been paid paid another third of his salary [his annual base pay was $165,796].

Akey was paid an additional $190,000 in media compensation for public appearances and talking to TV, radio and newspapers about the Vandal football team.

But the Moscow Daily News reports that the U of I denied Akey's claim, saying it appropriately fired the coach.

Attorneys representing the university filed their response to Akey's suit in Latah County's 2nd District Court.
