AP: Secretary of State Closes Book on Probe Into Lobbyists

Secretary of State Ben Ysursa says he has closed his investigation into two lobbyists following a complaint accusing the pair of killing a firearms bill during the 2013 session of the Idaho Legislature.

The Associated Press reports that Idaho Sheriff's Association Director Vaughn Killeen registered as a lobbyist last week and the same group's paid lobbyist, Mike Kane, updated his disclosure reports to reflect that he had lobbied against the bill.

Boise Republican Rep. Mark Patterson had lodged the complaint with the Secretary of State's office, saying that Killeen and Kane had lobbied without properly disclosing their involvement. Patters said the two "sabotaged" his proposed measure, which ultimately died.

Ysursa said he considered the matter closed, since Kane and Killen made the changes.
