Press-Tribune: Allegations, Denials In Melba School District

One day after Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said that he had asked for the Ada County Sheriff's Department to launch an investigation into possible obstruction of a probe into two alleged sex crimes in the Melba School District, the Melba School Superintendent Andrew Grover said Donahue's allegations were "false and damaging."

This morning's Idaho Press-Tribune reports that Grover said he's been trying to contact Donahue regarding school safety "but the sheriff has not but responsive."

"Apparently there is a [personality conflict]," Grover told the Press-Tribune, and added that he was unaware of any investigation of obstruction or failure to report crimes until he read the Press-Tribune.

Donahue said that a male juvenile had been arrested in connection with an alleged rape at the Melba Junior-Senior High School. The unnamed suspect is charged with lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16 and battery with intent to commit a serious felony. Donahue also said his department was investigating a report of alleged sexual misconduct by a former teacher in the district.

Grover said the school district's attorneys were in the process of drafting a response letter to the sheriff.
