'Light Foot' Militia Created in Ada County to 'Assist' in Protection of Lives, Property

A bizarre press release was sent out early today, indicating the creation of a new new militia—a so called "Light Foot Unit"—that insists that a county sheriff is the supreme law of the land.

"We recognize the county sheriff is the ONLY publicly elected law enforcement officer in America," wrote the new unit's "Commander," Jack Stuart. " Yet, in the midst of the sheriff's constitutional role in disaster relief, search and rescue, or civil emergencies, as his resources are spread thin, the Light Foot stands ready to assist to protect the lives and property of Ada County citizens with highly dedicated, disciplined and trained personnel."

The militia reportedly consists of 4 "officers" and 26 enlisted personnel and "is currently seeking additional recruits."

The militia was formed during a June 4 meeting in Meridian, according to Stuart.

"Our charter authorization is consistent with the Idaho Constitution, Article XIV, Sections 1-6," wrote Stuart, who said that he hopes to "establish open communication with, and support of, the Ada County Sheriff's Department."
