Mountain Express: Sun Valley Official Says City Hall Has Become 'Laughingstock'

A City of Sun Valley official says his City Hall has become a "laughingstock" in the wake of a debate—which has stretched out over eight months—over a streetlight.

In an article titled "A Streetlight Named Dysfunction," the Idaho Mountain-Express reports that Sun Valley Councilman Franz Suhadolnik told his colleagues that a citizen recently approached him:

"My neighbor says, 'What's wrong with you guys? Can't you make a decision?'"

Suhadolnik's comment during the latest discussion, which lasted nearly three-hours, over whether a Sun Valley intersection should have safety improvements, including an adequate streetlight. It turns out that after some debate, a streetlight was recently installed at the intersection but subsequently turned off.

"The discussion appeared to be a microcosm of a small-town political meltdown that has been ravaging the city since personnel issues involving officials, department heads and staff members erupted in late 2011," wrote the Mountain-Express.

The Sun Valley Council is expected to debate the streetlight, one more time, at its next meeting on Wednesday, July 24.
