Times-News: AG Probe Could Result in More Charges Against Minidoka Sheriff

The Minidoka County sheriff might soon be facing more criminal charges.

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that Minidoka County commissioners released a non-statement statement June 24, writing, "The county cannot discuss certain issues with allegations and concerns surrounding the investigation due to the personnel issues and the ongoing investigation. The county is waiting to see what additional steps will be taken by the Office of the Attorney General to deal with these concerns."

The AG's office was called in to investigate after Minidoka County Sheriff Kevin Halverson was accused of using a government credit card to buy gasoline for another female county employee. The AG's office uncovered at least four instances of Halverston using the gas card for personal use.

Halverson was charged with misusing public funds—a felony.

Court documents also alleged a personal relationship between Halverson and a woman working in the sheriff's office.

Halverson is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, July 18, in Minidoka County Court.
