Humane Official: Idaho Pet Cruelty Incidents 'Worst I've Ever Seen'

Clearwater County officials are investigating two incidents of alleged animal cruelty—one which is expected to result in criminal charges and another which an animal humane official called the worst she's ever seen.

Sherrie Chambers, executive director of the Clearwater Humane Society told the Lewiston Tribune that the second incident involved alleged hoarding. Her organization took in 22 cats and five Chihuahua and Chihuahua-mix dogs into custody after they were described as living in extreme filth and had never been outside. One dog had a leg broken in multiple places.

The first incident, which involved criminal charges of cruelty to animals and misdemeanor drug and alcohol charges involved malnourished Labrador-mix dogs.

Between the two incidents, Chambers told the Tribune that veterinarian bills would total $5,000 to $6,000.

"It's an awful thing to see," she said. "Seeing the reality of it is the emotionally difficult part. And every time you see this, it's very, very hard."
