Tense Moments at Nampa Courthouse Annex as Prisoner Attempts Escape

Posted By on Tue, Jul 23, 2013 at 9:30 AM

Canyon County law enforcement is investigating exactly how a prisoner got a hold of a pair of scissors July 22, cut his restraints and made threats against a correctional officer.

The incident occurred at the Canyon County Courthouse Nampa Annex. That's where 19-year-old Jackie Curl, currently being held on charges of burglary, somehow smuggled a pair of scissors and then asked to use the bathroom. Nampa Police said Curl cut his restraints and when a correctional officer came to check on him, Curl attempted to take the officer's keys and threatened him.

Police responded with with a tactical unit and crisis negotiation team. Curl eventually surrendered. Police said Curl had probably been trying to escape from the annex while awaiting his scheduled sentencing which had been scheduled for later that day.

Curl is now being held without bond at the Canyon County Jail.
