Tribune: Regence Outsourcing Idaho Jobs to India

Posted By on Wed, Jul 24, 2013 at 9:44 AM

Regence is sending a team of its Idaho workers to India in order to train an Indian operation on how to process claims from Regence's customers.

This morning's Lewiston Tribune reports that 14 employees from the Regence Lewiston offices will be training Indians to take over the work of 55 U.S. employees that Regence is cutting from its payroll. Those losing their jobs include employees in Idaho, Utah, Oregon and Washington.

The Tribune reports that Regence has contracted with New Jersey-based Cognizant to process claims for individual insurance policies. Cognizant, in turn, is outsourcing the job to India.

"We're always looking for ways to improve our operation," Regence spokeswoman Georganne Benjamin told the Tribune. "This decision with Cognizant was researched intensely over a long period of time about what made the most sense for our customers and for us."

Benjamin added that customer calls to Regence will continue to be handled by U.S. employees.
