It was bound to happen; it was only a matter of when.

Local wildland fire protection agencies announced today that a Stage 1 Fire Restriction will go into effect Thursday, Aug. 1, including all private and agency lands protected by the Boise, Payette and Sawtooth national forests, the Idaho Department of Lands Forest Protection Districts, the Southern Idaho Timber Protection Association and the Bureau of Land Management field offices.

The restrictions will include all private, state and BLM protected lands outside incorporated city limits within Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Owyhee, Payette and Washington counties, and portions of Idaho, Adams, Valley, Custer, Elmore, Camas and Blaine counties.

Effective Aug. 1, restrictions will include:

• No building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, stove fire except within an agency designated recreation site and only within an agency provided structure, or on a private citizen's own land and only within an owner-provided permanent structure.

• No smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, building or designated recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.

There are some exemptions to Stage 1 fire restrictions, including:

• Persons with a written permit.

• Persons using fire solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels.

• Any federal, state or local officer or firefighting force.

• All land within a city boundary.
